SAMPE (Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering) is a general organization devoted to the promotion of technical excellence in materials and process engineering, totalling around 15,000 engineers, technologists and materials scientists. It was founded in 1944 by Californian aerospace engineers with the goal to build a professional network and improve the exchange of technical information. Since those times, SAMPE has spread all over the world and is divided in about 40 chapters.

The SAMPE Europe 2015 conference was held on 15-17 September 2015 and was co-hosted by SAMPE Europe, SAMPE France and Stelia Aerospace in the city of Amiens, France.
Ms. Lu Zhao of TWI presented the paper titled “Application of Acousto-Ultrasonics in Wind Turbine Blade Inspection” authored by the AutoWinSpec partners (TWI, SpectrumLabs and InnotecUK). The work presents modelling and experimental results of inspecting Glass Fibre Reinforced Composite (GFRC) wind turbine blades (WTB) with the acoustoultrasonic (AU) method.
